The Goethe-Institut Freiburg is delighted to welcome the Juval Quartet with the support of baritone Uli Bützer for this special evening.
The transition between life and death was explored in many different ways in the Romantic period: In selected songs by Schubert, Schumann, Hensel and Dvorak, dimensions of letting go, loneliness and pain as well as involuntary deprivation come to the fore. These facets open up different perspectives on the relationship between life and death in the context of Romantic chamber music.
On this evening, contemporary voices will also have their say: the theme is isolation in a present characterized by smooth perfection, in which the individual is no longer touched - and thus dies, as it were, in the midst of life. Music and language form the framework for the debate. In addition to the quartets, songs arranged for quartet and voice give the concert a linguistic contour. Short literary texts complement the program.
The Juval Quartet was founded in 2018 by students from the Freiburg University of Music. Since then, the quartet has devoted itself intensively to exploring chamber music works from the classical and romantic periods through to the modern era. The joy of playing and the exploration of the contexts in which the works were written are important aspects of the ensemble's collaboration.
The baritone Uli Bützer can be heard as a freelance singer in opera, concerts and recitals. He has not only attracted attention with his commitment to the "Opernretter" project aimed at children, but has also been awarded the Opus Klassik for his production "Hell ist die Nacht" at the Mozartfest Würzburg.
Look forward to a stimulating evening and enjoy the opportunity to talk to the artists over a glass of wine afterwards.
