Kolsimcha's unique sound has captivated discerning audiences at New York's Carnegie Hall as well as the most prestigious jazz, classical and world music festivals since the ensemble was founded in 1986. In its concerts, Kolsimcha creates a unique atmosphere with its lively, open musical language and its infectious joy of playing and virtuosity, and has enriched celebrated European theater, dance and film productions with a new, emotional dimension.
Clarinet and flute merge with piano, double bass and drums to create a unique sound. The spectrum ranges from complex and spontaneous jazz improvisations to classical virtuosity, exotic melodies and groovy beats. The result is an extraordinary web of sound that combines the most diverse styles and influences.
The band began playing traditional klezmer music at Jewish wedding celebrations more than 30 years ago, but even then they created their very own, unmistakable soundscapes beyond all the usual klezmer clichés with their concept of "contemporary klezmer", which combines Eastern European musical tradition with jazz and elements of classical music.
Always looking to broaden their musical horizons, over the years they have found their own personal style by integrating a wide variety of musical forms, which has delighted audiences and critics alike. Stylistic openness has always characterized Kolsimcha's repertoire, which consists exclusively of their own compositions, as evidenced not only by their numerous live performances, but also by their CD recordings.
