“The fictional ‘Center for Mobility Research’ in Freiburg is renaming itself on the occasion of its 70th anniversary and will become the ‘Center for Mobility Issues’ (ZfMf). With this rebranding, it is opening itself up to the urban community and making scientific content more accessible—from mobility data and environmental issues to historical developments and urban planning strategies. A central component of this reorientation is the launch of the online radio station mobile.fm. It not only informs but also fosters a new sense of community: through hotlines, studio guests, and interactive formats, listeners become participants. The station is run by the ZfMf staff themselves, who are gradually settling into their new roles.”

The live radio play KNOTENPUNKTE by Clemens K. Thomas (music) and Friedemann Dupelius (text) brings this dynamic to the stage here at the ensemble building. The musicians of Ensemble Recherche embody the “machinery” of the bustling headquarters—a sonic engine room poised between precise bureaucracy and frenetic energy, where institutional and media-driven change become audible.
