Italian-inspired lightness - change may be a risk - but how rewarding it can be. When the Kammerakademie Potsdam was looking for a successor to Antonello Manacorda after a decade and a half, the new appointment opened up new spaces for the imagination. Since 2024, François Leleux has not only been a spirited conductor, but also an excellent oboist at the helm of the orchestra. Leleux, who is associated with ensembles such as the Camerata Salzburg and the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, describes the collaboration with the Potsdamers as a stroke of luck - as a meeting of musical minds at the same frequency. The enthusiasm is mutual: shortly after he took office, the ensemble extended the contract early until 2030.
In Freiburg, the Kammerakademie presents itself with a program full of Italian-inspired lightness. This includes Mozart's exuberant, sparkling Concerto K. 314, which was originally written in 1777 as an oboe concerto for the virtuoso Friedrich Ramm. It was only later that Mozart arranged the work for flute, giving it its popular form to this day. At the Albert guest performance, the solo part is in the hands of Emmanuel Pahud, principal flute of the Berliner Philharmoniker and a proven Mozart expert, who has provided all of the composer's flute concertos with his own cadenzas. Pahud and Leleux join forces musically in the "Duo Brillant" based on motifs from Rossini's opera "Guillaume Tell", composed by flautist Jules Demersseman. The lively finale is Felix Mendelssohn's "Italian" Symphony - a work of youthful euphoria, rhythmic brilliance and southern color.
