Coffee & Cake – My Year in 12 Cups: A Creative Year in Review with Coffee, Color, and Personal Memories

I’m Petty Heisler, an ARTist and designer. In my classes, I guide people through intuitive drawing and painting as a creative method for inner peace, self-expression, and playful perception—free from the pressure to be perfect or to perform, and connected to creativity, mindfulness, and the inner child.

The Workshop:

12 Months – 12 Coffee Stains – 12 Spaces of Memory

What remains of a year?

Sometimes it’s the big events. But often it’s precisely the small moments, encounters, changes, and surprises that stick in our memories.

In this three-hour workshop, we’ll look back on the past twelve months—not chronologically with long texts, but intuitively, playfully, and visually.

Twelve very different spaces for personal memories emerge from coffee stains. The circles can blur, overlap, and leave behind spots and splatters. It is precisely the imperfections that become part of the picture.

Using coffee, watercolors, and colored pencils, we’ll capture memories and translate them into small images, colors, lines, marks, and symbols.

The goal isn’t to create twelve perfect illustrations. One month might be a color, another just a line, a small symbol, or a spontaneous sketch. Feel free to think ahead of time about what has sustained you over the past 12 months and what visual image from each month has stayed with you.

Step by step, this creates a very personal year-in-review—like a painted map of memories from your own year.

And because reminiscing and enjoying go so well together, the workshop takes place at classic coffee time.

Module Contents:

• A playful introduction to intuitive painting and drawing with coffee

• Experimenting with coffee cup imprints, coffee streaks, stains, splatters, and random shapes

• Creating 12 memory spaces for the past 12 months

• Personal reflection: Which people, experiences, changes, and small moments have stayed with me?

• Translating memories into simple symbols, colors, lines, and shapes

• Working with coffee and watercolor paint

• Playfully developing randomly formed coffee shapes

• Developing a personal visual language without striving for perfection

• Time to pause, reflect, share, and enjoy

• Concluding the session together while viewing the resulting annual images

Coffee & Beverages:

Coffee and other beverages can be ordered directly at the Sportpark counter during the workshop and are paid for by the participants themselves.

We’ll bring the cake or pastries:

This allows us to accommodate individual preferences for lactose-free and gluten-free options, since everyone brings their own cake—and shares it with others, if desired.

• Clothes that can get dirty

• Just bring your enthusiasm for playing

• Leave your inner critic lovingly at the door

You’ll receive the following materials on-site:

• Watercolor paper (DIN A3, approx. 250 g/m²), up to 3 sheets

Materials available for loan:

• Workboard and tape

• Watercolor paints and white opaque paint, pencil, ballpoint pen

• Kneaded eraser

• Pre-brewed espresso in a glass, along with a cup and a saucer

Sportpark Freiburg, Ensisheimer Straße 5, 79110 Freiburg.

After entering, turn right around the corner into the separate glass-enclosed area

Time: 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Please arrive about 15 minutes early so you can settle in and find your seat. We’ll start promptly at 3:00 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m., we’ll clean up together so we can leave the room in good condition by around 6:15 p.m.

Maximum of 10 people

Certificate of Participation

After the course, each participant will receive a certificate of participation via email the following day.

Those who complete all 16 modules will receive a certificate from Petty Heisler in the field of intuitive painting and drawing.

The price for this course is 50.00 € including material costs

Cancellation by Participants

You may cancel free of charge up to 7 days before the course begins.

After that, the full participation fee will be charged, as costs for room rental, preparation, and materials have already been incurred by that time. You’re welcome to name a substitute. Please let me know as soon as possible if you’re unable to attend—sometimes a spot can still be passed on to someone else.
