Since its founding in 1944, the Freiburg Bach Choir has been deeply rooted in Freiburg’s community, has firmly established itself in the city’s musical life, and has gained a reputation that extends far beyond the city’s borders. Johann Sebastian Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, arguably the master’s most popular vocal work, will be performed. The individual movements of the work were first performed during six church services between Christmas Day 1734 and Epiphany 1735 at St. Nicholas Church and St. Thomas Church in Leipzig. Today, they are performed together in the festive atmosphere of the Freiburg Konzerthaus (concert hall).
