Masterpieces like “Inglourious Basterds” and even the legendary James Bond series are inextricably linked to Freiburg. We’ll show you which bank building hosted a witches’ coven, where world-famous agents lived, and why the university was blown up. A cinematic treasure hunt: full of anecdotes, star-studded, and off-the-wall.

This tour focuses on interesting filming locations where, among others, Diane Keaton, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Klaus Kinski, and many others filmed, but we’ll also highlight people who—having once lived in Freiburg—enriched the world of cinema—just think of films like “Inglourious Basterds,” “Geierwally,” or the James Bond series. And: we’ll explore Germany’s first movie theater chain, which was headquartered in Freiburg. Or we’ll talk about the man who invented an entire film genre—in Freiburg studios!
We’ll also explore the impact of propaganda films during the Third Reich as we discuss Leni Riefenstahl, her admission to the Freiburg psychiatric hospital, and the trials against her (including those held in our city). Or the student protests outside the Friedrichsbau cinema in response to a film by Veit Harlan. By the way, the Friedrichsbau also holds a special superlative... Or, or, or........ Of course, there’s much more to it, and it ends with a “Schnapsklappe”!
