Heidi

High up in the mountains, the orphan Heidi finds a home and happiness. With her unwavering kindness, Heidi wins over everyone’s hearts—from Alm-Öhi to Geißenpeter, and right down to us. But why is that? Do we long for a simple life with a bed of straw and a glass of fresh milk? Does Heidi represent a longing for an unspoiled world and a life in a flower-filled meadow? Heidi has long been part of Switzerland’s cultural heritage and an international pop phenomenon. She appears in countless texts, images, films, comics, TV series, and translations. It’s always the same story. In the end, Heidi returns to the mountains. Lena Reißner is collaborating with the ensemble to create a new version of Heidi. Together, they ask the uncomfortable questions about the Alpine idyll: What unease lies hidden behind the idyllic mountain world? What danger lurks in the kitsch of fir trees and sunsets?
