The Hebsackwiese in the Herdern neighborhood of Freiburg is one of the most beautiful scenic meadows on the outskirts of the city. Many Freiburg residents affectionately refer to it as their “favorite meadow” because it uniquely combines the experience of nature, sweeping views, and a peaceful atmosphere.
Thanks to its open location, the meadow is a popular spot for walks, short breaks in nature, and the starting point for hikes up the Roßkopf. From here, trails lead into the surrounding forests and hilly landscapes of eastern Freiburg. The Roßkopf, with its hiking trails, is easily accessible from the meadow.
Together with the adjacent meadow slopes, the Hebsackwiese shapes the distinctive landscape above Herdern. The area was formed through decades of agricultural use and is still managed as a meadow today.
The Hebsackwiese is particularly charming on days with clear visibility and in the evening hours, when impressive plays of light unfold over Freiburg. Thanks to its location at the transition between the city and nature, it pleasantly combines relaxation, scenic views, and a connection with nature.
