Two proven Mozart interpreters meet in a program dedicated to the human voice and the fortepiano. Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg performs some of Mozart's most beautiful concert arias, including works he wrote for his favorite pupil Nancy Storace.
At her side, Kristian Bezuidenhout leads from the fortepiano. In "Non temer, amato bene", Mozart placed the piano alongside the voice as an equal partner. Mozart wrote this aria as a farewell gift for Storace and entered it in his own hand in his catalog of works - with the note "for Mlle Storace and myself".
In the Piano Concerto K. 488, the solo instrument takes center stage. The finale occupied Mozart longer than usual, with several drafts before he found the solution that is heard today. At 524 bars, it is the most extensive orchestral movement in Mozart's entire oeuvre.
