Freiburg (Breisgau) main station
Freiburg Central Station is the city's main train station and a central transportation hub in the Breisgau region. It connects Freiburg to regional and national rail networks and serves as an important starting point for trips to the city center and the Black Forest.
Freiburg Central Station opened in 1845 and is now a major rail hub in southern Baden. Major rail lines, such as the Rhine Valley Railway, the Höllental Railway, and the Breisach Railway, converge here. Regional and long-distance trains connect Freiburg with the surrounding area, other cities in Germany, and other European countries. The current station building was constructed around the turn of the millennium and was completed in 2001. The modern complex includes the station concourse, a Markthalle (market hall) with shops and restaurants, as well as hotel and office towers. The main station is located on the western edge of the Old Town and is well integrated into the city’s public transit system via tram and bus connections.
