Dieter Ilg Trio - "motherland" - revisited
For years, Dieter Ilg has been one of the most influential voices in European jazz. His international reputation is based on his electrifying vitality as a performer, his intelligent curiosity, his technical brilliance, and his sensitive devotion to the moment. This has resulted in three ECHO Jazz Awards, specifically for his trio projects.
The renowned double bassist also owes these awards to his two exceptional colleagues, Rainer Böhm (piano) and Patrice Héral (drums), who are in a class of their own.
Following arrangements and improvisations based exclusively on classical works, a highly personal program—as well as an album—has now emerged. It is a surprise, a transformation, and a metamorphosis all at once. You have to experience this German-French, internationally acclaimed trio; simply listening isn’t enough.
“Dieter Ilg and his trio are world-class.” G&B
“Dieter Ilg doesn’t just cross boundaries—he builds bridges.” Rondo
“A magnificent trio where every member is on equal footing.” Jazz thing
“This is the first time we’re not using a classical composer as our ‘theme,’ but rather a colorful mix of my favorite songs, various original compositions, pop songs from the ’60s and ’70s, and various reminiscences. Of course, all spiced with a dash of humor, stubbornness, wildness, a sense of home, and a steadfast, boundless affection. Thematically, it’s dedicated in particular to my roots, my heritage and tradition, the protection of Mother Earth, and the feeling of being at home.”
