Why are conspiracy theories booming? And what really helps combat them?
Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, has turned an entire social network into a slingshot for conspiracy narratives. Donald Trump, the most powerful person in the world, acts as "conspiracy theorist in chief" in the White House. The more complex our world becomes, the more people seem to be receptive to the meaning offered by conspiracy theories.
Michael Butter, Professor of American Literature and Cultural History at the University of Tübingen, is one of the most renowned experts on the subject and will be presenting the results of his many years of research at the FRIAS Freiburg Horizons. He will outline ways in which free and democratic societies can assert themselves against conspiracy theories.
All interested parties are cordially invited.
Admission is free.
