A queer love affair from the Old Testament, set to music in garish 17th-century opera scenes: with these spicy ingredients, the French Baroque composer Marc-Antoinette and the French composer Gilles de la Léon tell their story. Baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier and librettist and Jesuit father François de Paule Bretonneau tell the story of David and Jonathan with these spicy ingredients. In their tragédie biblique David et Jonathas from 1688, they leave no doubt about the intensity of this relationship. In the leading roles, we experience two international professionals in two unusual vocal ranges: The French high tenor (haute-contre) David Tricou has already sung the main role in staged productions in Versailles. We were able to win over the well-known soprano Phillip Mathmann as Jonathan.
Following Puccini's one-act opera Suor Angelica, the Kammerchor an der Christuskirche and Christusbarock will continue the series of biblical operas in the Christuskirche and go on tour. On Friday, October 24, the first performance will take place in the traditional hour of church music in Stuttgart's Stiftskirche.
