CARA - Live 2026

CARA captivates audiences worldwide with unique interpretations of Celtic music, deeply rooted in the Irish and Scottish traditions. With innovative arrangements of traditional pieces and widely acclaimed original compositions, they create an unmistakable sound.
Their vocal repertoire ranges from dreamy ballads to archaic Gaelic mouth music and their own songs with contemporary sociopolitical themes, with the two lead singers, Gudrun Walther and Kim Edgar, always complementing each other with dreamlike precision.
The songs alternate with fast-paced instrumental pieces that thrive on the virtuoso interplay between the fiddle and
uilleann pipes. The Irish bagpipes—designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2017—are played by Simon Pfisterer, who studied this extraordinary instrument in Ireland.
What also makes CARA special is the interplay between guitar and piano, as well as the band’s unconventional and
rhythmically and harmonically rich arrangements. They bear the signature of Jürgen Treyz, guitarist,
producer, and musical mastermind of the band.
From the opener to the encore, CARA delivers highlights in their concerts—not least thanks to the gripping solos
contributed by each band member—and surprises the audience with ever-changing sounds. Rounded out by their charming and humorous stage presence, an evening with CARA guarantees the highest musical enjoyment and top-notch entertainment. Tours and acclaimed concerts in the U.S., Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, France, Benelux, Austria, Italy, and Switzerland attest to the band’s success story.
Although the multinational lineup of Irish, Scottish, and German musicians has changed over the band’s 23-year history, one thing has remained constant: the close friendship at the heart of this musical collaboration—true to the spirit of the Irish word “cara,” which means “friend.” With their latest album, *Our Ship Is Ready*, CARA responds to the challenges of our time with a reflective, hopeful, and life-affirming perspective. Themes such as emigration, love, loss, and
climate change find a place on the album, as does the remarkable power of traditional music to offer hope even in difficult
times—serving as a bridge between awareness of complex realities and the courage to act.
CARA typically performs as a quartet, but can also present their program as a quintet featuring Irish guest musician Cormac Byrne (bodhrán/percussion).
