Blues & Hip-Hop Beats and a Reading at the Altes Klavierdepot: It wasn’t just with the advent of AI, but already in the early computer age—that is, the age of sampling, boundless simulation, and infinite availability—that authenticity and genuineness took on special significance in art as well as in pop music. And even more so, the question of cultural appropriation arises when physical presence isn’t even necessary to create a supposedly authentic work that has been stripped of its history and its creator. British author Hari Kunzru titled his novel “White Tears,” which explores all of these themes: vividly and with great musical knowledge, he tells a story of racism, white nerds, the power of money, and ultimately a revenge that emerges like a ghost from the past. Musically, Kunzru spans the spectrum from traditional blues to modern sampling. DJ Joachim Schneider-Sacotte will provide musical accompaniment for the passages read by Sebastian Reiß during the evening.
