Annie is an orphan who, in 1933, sets out with her dog Sandy in search of her parents. A chance encounter leads her to the home of the wealthy but grumpy businessman Warbucks. He offers a large reward to find Annie’s parents, which attracts a cunning pair of con artists. Eventually, Annie learns that her parents have long since passed away. But with her endearing personality, she has long since won over Mr. Warbucks’s heart, and he now adopts her.
Inspired by the radio hits of the 1930s, Charles Strouse created cheerful music that invites you to hum along. The most famous hit to this day is the song “Tomorrow.”
ANNIE is one of the successful musicals based on a comic strip and ran for 2,377 performances in New York. It won seven Tony Awards and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Musical.
In 2014, a new film adaptation of ANNIE starring Jamie Foxx and others hit theaters. Please note that this film version differs significantly from the stage production—but the charm of this nostalgic musical is unbeatable anyway!
