After-Work: Cocoa Ceremony
The Museum Natur und Mensch (Natural History Museum) and the One World Forum Freiburg (EWFF) invite anyone aged 16 and older to a cacao ceremony. Participants will gain a thoughtful and reflective understanding of the spiritual and political dimensions of cacao. The focus will be on practices and symbols associated with the fruit, as well as its significance as a sacred element for communities in Mesoamerica and South America. In addition to exploring the origins of cacao, the event will also critically examine how its use in today’s global context is linked to extractivist and colonial narratives. The ceremony will be led by Luisa Hernandez, an artist and expert on indigenous cultures from Oaxaca, Mexico. Tickets for the event cost 5 euros and are available in the online shop and at the museum ticket office.
