"Facing the future."
Festive concert and highlight of the series 25x21 - Music of the 21st century in the program of the Freiburg Philharmonic Orchestra:
100 years ago, The Miraculous Mandarin, a dance pantomime by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók, caused a fierce scandal at its premiere in Cologne in 1926 - allegedly due to immoral acts. Further performances were banned and Bartók reworked the work into a suite. In our concert summit of new sounds, you can listen to this fascinating work through the burning glass of the last century and presumably without any scandal - but what do we know about tomorrow ...?
One thing's for sure: we're getting a distinguished visitor - from Ensemble Recherche. They are friends, neighbors and the super-cracks for new music, i.e. for works by living composers. They are coming with "Gemurmel" - Murmurs, the name of the piece written especially for them by star composer Rebecca Saunders. And now all together: The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has made it possible for us to award a commission to the renowned Croatian composer Mirela Ivičević. It is to be a democratic piece for a symphony orchestra and a specialist ensemble. A group summit with music in the abundance of its possibilities. Celebrate the unique moment of a world premiere with us! And discover a new, future (sound) world together with us.
Philharmonic Orchestra meets Ensemble Recherche.
