Freedom Works: The Experience of Javier Milei's Economic Reforms in Argentina

Prof. Dr. Federico Sturzenegger Minister for "Deregulation and Transformation of the State" of the Argentine Republic

For several years, the Walter Eucken Institute has organized an annual Walter Eucken Lecture, at which outstanding personalities from politics, business and academia speak to a broad audience about fundamental issues of regulatory policy.

The Walter Eucken Medal is awarded by the Institute and the Forum Ordnungspolitik to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the Walter Eucken Institute or to regulatory policy education through their commitment and contributions.

The speaker: Prof. Dr. Federico Sturzenegger (Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State of the Argentine Republic).

Federico Sturzenegger graduated in economics from the Universidad Nacional de La Plata in 1987 and received his doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1991. He is currently Argentina's Minister for Deregulation and State Reform. He is also a full professor at the Universidad de San Andrés (UdeSA) and an associate professor at Harvard University's School of Government (both positions currently on leave). He was a professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (UTDT). Previously, he was Chief Economist at YPF (1995 - 1998), Secretary of State for Economic Policy (2001), President of Banco Ciudad (2008 - 2013), Member of the Chamber of Deputies (2013 - 2015) and President of the Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) from 2015 to 2018. He is the author of several books and articles on economics. With 54 publications in peer-reviewed journals, he has the second-highest academic impact among economists based in Argentina, according to REPEC. The Konex Foundation has recognized him for his contributions to economic theory and the World Economic Forum has named him a Young Global Leader.
