What would Hollywood's Golden Era be without Ernst Lubitsch and Billy Wilder, but also without the film music of E. W. Korngold and other emigrants? Without the former European and largely secular Jewish cultural elite, the cultural radiance of the USA in the decades following the Second World War would have been almost inconceivable. Musicians such as Fritz Kreisler and Kurt Weill helped shape cultural life in New York, both in Carnegie Hall and on Broadway.
