Universität Freiburg (University campus Freiburg)

Founded in 1457, the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität is one of the oldest universities in Germany. The historic institution boasts “comprehensive” university status and has always included the most important areas of study: theology, law, medicine and philosophy.

Fondly known as the “Albertina” by Freiburg residents, the university today educates some 25,500 inquisitive minds from over 100 countries, who are enrolled in eleven faculties and pursuing 196 different fields of study. More than 7,000 professors and educators as well as other staff work in 100 institutes, 20 scientific centers and 13 special research divisions.

Many famous philosophers, leading researchers no fewer than 10 Nobel laureates have taught and researched at the University of Freiburg, which has, not surprisingly, earned the university many awards for its excellent research and teaching achievements.
