MUNDOLOGIA: With the houseboat through France

Away from all the hustle and bustle, the tranquil and slow way of traveling by houseboat is a unique way to relax. Over 8000 kilometers of rivers and canals run through France today. They were once important for the economic development of the country. Today, they are experiencing a new boom thanks to boating tourism, and the canals can be navigated by houseboat without a license. The slowness of locomotion allows a much more intense perception of the surroundings.

In Martin Schulte-Kellinghaus' new lecture, you will first travel by houseboat through wonderful, secluded nature in the valleys of the Vosges, and later through the remote rural regions of Franche-Comté. Monasteries and castles pass by in Burgundy until you arrive in Paris on the Seine. You make exciting discoveries in the French metropolis in a completely new way. The river Oise leads further north, war graves remind us of the battlefields of the First World War. Northern France has a dense and varied network of canals. Ingenious master builders created unique Gothic cathedrals here. On the cathedral tour from Reims to Amiens, you can reach five Gothic marvels by houseboat, each one more beautiful than the last.

In the south of France, the Canal du Midi is certainly a highlight for every houseboater. You can enjoy the flair of the south. Surrounded by vineyards to the right and left, you glide slowly along the canal under shady avenues of plane trees - it's balm for the soul.
