At the heart of this Passion concert is the famous "Stabat Mater" by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi for female choir, soprano, alto and string orchestra.
The work is given a further, impressive dimension through dance choreography: music, movement and spirituality merge together. The dance project leads the young singers of the girls' choir and the audience into an emotional process in which the cathedral itself becomes a "breathing work of art".
The program is complemented by the sonically impressive "Misere mei, Deus" by Gregorio Allegri, originally composed only for the Sistine Chapel, and the Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber. It is Barber's own arrangement of his "Adagio for Strings" for mixed choir a cappella, which is considered one of the most famous American choral works worldwide.
