ECM Special Event - A very special evening in the historic St. Michael's Chapel at the Old City Cemetery in Freiburg im Breisgau. Two ECM artists with contrasting solo performances.
Rolf Lislevand (lute)
On his latest recording for the ECM New Series, lute virtuoso Rolf Lislevand devotes himself to the pioneering Baroque literature for archlute and chitarrone and interprets works by 17th century lute composers, which are mainly found in their first printed books - the respective libri primi. In impressive solo performances, the Norwegian explores the revolutionary nature of pieces by the Italians Johann Hieronymous Kapsberger, Giovanni Paolo Foscarini and Bernardo Gianoncelli as well as two recerercadas by the Spaniard Diego Ortiz.
Björn Meyer (6-string electric bass)
Meyer's compositions, developed from intuitive notes, actually form into songs that take unexpected new paths. Yes, it's not much jazz, and it's not wrong to be reminded of forms of so-called 'post-rock' or ambient; 'Provenance' is music like breathing. [...] Björn Meyer is a versatile sound poet who translates his experiences in multinational groups around Anouar Brahem and Asita Hamidi into musical images reduced to the essentials, thus opening up a richly personal cosmos.
