The Schlossberg Hill - from the Middle Ages to Vauban's fortress (guided tour)

In cooperation with VISTAtour and ARGE Freiburger Stadtbild - The tour illustrates the development of fortification technology from the medieval city wall to the monumental fortifications that covered almost the entire Schlossberg Hill in the Baroque period. An attempt is made to locate the medieval castle of the town lords, but also old names such as the "Salzbüchsle", the "Halbmond" or the "Obere Schloss" in today's terrain. You will also learn how Freiburg's "Verschönerungsverein" later transformed the Schlossberg Hill into a spacious park and a secluded retreat with wooded areas and vantage points, so that "after a walk of just a few minutes, every city dweller can be in the middle of a forest thicket, where they feel completely removed from city life". - Registration required.
