The Carl-Schurz-Haus in Freiburg is the city's German-American Institute and has been a place for culture, education and transatlantic exchange since 1952. Events, English courses and an extensive library make it a lively meeting place in the city center.
In the heart of Freiburg's city center, the Carl-Schurz-Haus has been an important place for transatlantic culture and international encounters since 1952. As a German-American Institute, it combines lectures, readings, film series, workshops and exhibitions with current social, political and cultural topics from Germany and the USA. With around 250 events a year, the institute shapes Freiburg's cultural landscape far beyond the city limits.
The varied cultural program is complemented by a wide range of English courses for children, young people, adults and companies, taught exclusively by native speakers. There is also an English-language library, study and exchange advice for stays in the USA and numerous community formats. Its central location in Eisenbahnstraße makes the Carl-Schurz-Haus an inspiring meeting place for language enthusiasts, culture vultures and anyone who wants to experience international perspectives in Freiburg.
