Exhibition "Continuity and Change" to mark the tenth anniversary of the new University library building in Freiburg

From 31.07.2025 to 07.11.2025, the exhibition "Continuity and Change" sheds light on the building history of the University library and portrays selected employees who organize the diverse services of the University library. The Freiburg University library building was reopened in July 2015 after undergoing extensive general refurbishment over a period of seven years. Since then, the "new" UB with its impressive - and at the same time polarizing - architecture has shaped the Freiburg cityscape. But its function and use in the digital age has also changed with the new building. To mark the tenth anniversary of its reopening, the University Library is presenting the exhibition "Continuity and Change" from July 31 to November 7, 2025. It can be seen during the library's opening hours, i.e. daily from 7 a.m. to midnight, in the freely accessible Parlatorium of the University Library. The exhibits shed light on the complex planning process and the challenging renovation work. It also reflects on how much the working environment, services and employees' tasks have changed in the context of digital transformation. Freiburg University Library is now a central place of learning and research with up to 16,000 visits per day. It provides access to a comprehensive range of digital and printed information and offers services for research, studies and teaching. On the one hand, the University Library is in the continuity of its long history, on the other hand, the claim of a library for the digital future was already formulated at the beginning of the planning for the new building 20 years ago; it still applies. The accompanying program includes a screening of the film "Zeit Räume", which documents the ambitious construction project.
