Whether you're a carnival fan or a carnival enthusiast - all fools get their money's worth here! The fifth season is celebrated from January to December in the "Haus Zum Grünen Jaspis", a late medieval town house from the 16th century.
Ribblinghieler, Schnogedätscher and Mooswaldwibiili are still foreign words to you? In the Fasnetmuseum, visitors can learn about the living traditions of Freiburg's guilds.
On display here are the historical Häs, costumes that indicate guild affiliation and are artfully sewn with straw, shingles, corks or grasses. The costume is completed by hand-carved, colorfully painted wooden masks (larvae) and typical paraphernalia such as scissors, pig bladders or bells.
The colorful carnival traditions from the southwest of Germany invite you to discover them!
A little tip: "Helau" and "Alaaf" are strictly forbidden here according to the customs guidelines. So it's better to shout "Narri - narro!" out loud!
