The perfect day for epicureans

Freiburg’s first-class restaurants and idyllic weekly markets

Freiburg’s Mediterranean ambiance and relaxed lifestyle naturally include leisure and indulgence. Baden's culinary delights mean sitting outdoors with a glass of wine or an after-work beer, or strolling through one of the picturesque weekly markets to try a variety of delicacies. Enjoy yourself!

Morning:

The sight of large baskets filled with colorful vegetables and the scent of fresh herbs will delight every epicurean. The variety of regional products in Münstermarkt (cathedral market) is unique. The same is true of their growers: Here on the north side of Freiburg’s landmark, free spirit Harry Schröder offers his homemade pesto with specially collected herbs, and Raffael Zimmermann sells Freiburg tea cakes made to old family recipes.

Discover small weekly markets, such as the farmers’ market in the Wiehre district. The idyllic location directly beside the old train station is the perfect place to have a coffee with the people of Freiburg.

Your breakfast could be a kind of picnic at the market, where you can sample all the typical delicacies of Freiburg, or savor the first meal of the day in one of our lovely cafés - outside, of course, if the weather is fine.

Afternoon:

Who doesn't know about Black Forest cake? This layered cream cake with airy chocolate sponge and juicy cherries can be found in nearly every confectionery shop in Freiburg. And although the delicate calorie bomb tops the list of our city’s most famous delicacies, it is by no means the only one. Let your palate get to know Baden and discover Freiburg’s various specialties on a culinary tour.

One of the most beautiful places to enjoy the sun, the relaxed Freiburg atmosphere, and a glass of wine is Alte Wache (House of Baden Wines) in the cathedral square. Experience the blue hour with a fruity Rivaner or a glass of sparkling Pinot Rosé brut. Cheers!

Evening:

Culinary Freiburg - that means hearty traditional cooking in our Baden restaurants, but also top-class, award-winning gastronomy and exclusive wines from the region.

The eight Michelin star-winning restaurants in Freiburg and the surrounding area promise sumptuous delights. Here, top chefs conjure up the finest dishes, always accompanied by an exquisite local vintage.

Those who prefer hops and malt will find their heart’s desire with a perfect head at the Freiburg breweries Ganter, Feierling, and Martin’s Bräu.
