Day 4

As the gateway to the Black Forest, Freiburg offers a whole range of both outdoor and indoor activities. Depending on the season, weather and your interests, you have a wide range of options for your fourth day in the Breisgau region.

Active in the Black Forest on the Schauinsland

The nearly 1,300-meter-high mountain peak offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Black Forest mountains and valleys, across the Rhine Valley, all the way to the Vosges Mountains. You can even see the Swiss Alps on a clear day. Take a hike following the sun, set off on a herb tour or simply enjoy the view over coffee and cake. During winter, ski lifts and toboggan runs provide plenty of fun in the snow.
Getting there: Take tram line 2 direction Günterstal to the terminal station and then take the shuttle bus to Germany's longest cable car line. Glide up to the Schauinsland in just 20 minutes. For more information, visit: www.schauinslandbahn.de

Family outings

Freiburg’s Old Town offers many attractions for kids, such as the Planetarium and the Museum of Nature and Man. Or head out of town to the Mundenhof Animal Park, a great destination for children. The 38-hectare park is home to grazing goats as well as lively meerkats, camels and chickens. Domestic and farm animals co-exist peacefully in the spacious pens of Baden-Württemberg’s largest animal habitat. The Mundenhof is open all year round. Admission is free. Visitors are simply asked to pay a five-euro parking fee or make a donation.

Pure relaxation

After three days of touring, take a break and spend a day in a spa.
The KEIDEL Bad spa is located on the edge of town. The spa’s star attraction is its spacious, brightly illuminated indoor area with six pools and an extensive outdoor section surrounded by the Mooswald forest. The spa also offers seven saunas and a Turkish steam bath.
The Vita Classica Therme spa is located about 20 kilometers southwest of Freiburg in Bad Krozingen. Treat yourself to a pampering experience in this stylish bathing palace with a spacious spa, which dubs itself as a “Wohlfühlhaus” or House of Wellness.
