Almost the whole of the city centre is a pedestrian zone, all businesses within the city centre ring road can be reached easily by foot and in just a short time. Only the city railway runs through the city centre and brings you directly to the pedestrian zone.
Freiburg is a city of cyclists. More than 400 kilometres of cycle paths and Freiburg's cycling mad population have made the bicycle the second most popular means of transport. Almost 30% of the transport routes within the Breisgau city are covered by bicycle.
